- My name is KAI OSMOND -
And I enjoy what I do.
I am a 20 year old University Student, currently doing a Games Art (BA) course at Falmouth Uni. Art has always been a central part of my life and a continuous source of enjoyment for me. From a young age I was always drawing, with my own sketchbook from 10 years old. My work quickly turned digital as I got access to photoshop at school. From then on I used it as my main hobby, creating all the scenes I would imagine. During my final year of A-Level, in my 3D Art course, I discovered that the curriculum accommodated digital 3D work. After giving Blender a go I was instantly hooked on creating beautiful environments in a digital space. After getting the program on my home pc I experimented with my new hobby. I then discovered a Games Art course at Falmouth and enrolled.
During my first year I gravitated towards environment work, despite being equally skilled at all 3 of the courses main focuses (Concept Art, Character Art, Environment Art). Being able to create my own worlds with all the massive scale and little details I could imagine engrossed me, and I loved imagining how a player would explore them.
I found that I took to learning programs naturally, and I had a higher output of work than most. All it takes is a solid investment in what I'm making and I can spend countless hours developing and honing my skills for that project, to the point that its no longer work, but instead a pastime that I cant pry myself away from.
Unsurprisingly, another one of my major passions is gaming itself, with my favorite game of all time being Outer Wilds. However a game that equally captured me was Elden Ring. Its gameplay and progression of course, but mostly its environment design, art direction and visual themes. I was blown away but how solid of a visual identity that game carved out with its sprawling landscapes and dramatic points of discovery. I want to have the skills to make something that impressive, and I find putting in the work to get there is more of a enjoyment than a road block.
